RapidBlocs are the first truly three dimensional system. The blocks allow for the creation of any shape, at any angle, at any point within the channel system. A feature as simple as a standing wave can be made larger, made glassier, moved up, moved down, moved left or moved right. Eddies can be created above the feature or below the feature or simply removed from the area altogether. This system truly gives the course operator a fully adjustable course that can be tuned, remodeled or updated.
The beauty of using this standard adjustable system is that it will allow a channel owner the confidence to know that their channel will be state-of-the-art for years to come. As the sport evolves so will the RapidBlocs and RapidBloc configurations and long into the future a RapidBloc channel will still provide high-tech dynamic whitewater.
The system has other benefits in comparison to similar systems. Model testing against other moveable obstacle systems has shown that the RapidBlocs are more efficient and better able to tune a particular section to the desired configuration. Obstacles are no longer limited to set areas within the channel such as pegboards or receiving holes. The model testing showed that a universally adjustable system allows for the creation of better waves that require less energy and lead to less momentum losses in the channel. This is due to the fact that the channel is not obstructed and temporarily constricted by pegboards that may not be being used. With RapidBlocs the features are formed where they are required and the remainder of the channel is available for efficient conveyance and momentum conservation.
In fact, when an identical course was set up with both RapidBlocs and a competitors products it was found that flows were consistently faster and created better formed waves in more parts of the channel. A national team coaching staff was challenged to implement a best fit configuration in both channels and, once completed - chose the RapidBloc system due to its performance and greater adaptability. Rapidblocs are, truly, the best products on the market when compared head to head.
The plot above shows the critical flow areas for each of the configurations.
Overall the RapidBloc configurations tended to create deeper wave train type features, which are rare in whitewater parks, while an alternative system created flatter and shallower slab-type drops, which are more common in whitewater parks.
